    MSSQL stopped mysteriously

On my Vista dev machine, I've now twice come in to work in the morning to find my MSSQL service not running.  This last time, the only logged event is the following, at 03:02:11 AM today:

SQL Server is terminating in response to a 'stop' request from Service Control Manager. This is an informational message only. No user action is required.

No updates are logged for today.  How can I determine the source of the stop request?

    Re: MSSQL stopped mysteriously

What version of SQL Server? If it's 2005, I've had the same update trying to install everyday for close to a week and always failing with some stupid error 66E (thanks Microsoft for the great error messages with this travesty of an operating system). So maybe it's a failed update, have you checked if it's tried to do an update and failed?

Sounds like something Vista would do. I have not experienced your exact problem, but I run Vista on my notebook, and it does some wierd things (Not allowing VS to attach to process unless you "Run as Administrator", for example) in the name of "Security". It's a weird animal, that one. Confused

    Re: MSSQL stopped mysteriously

I've heard this happening for failed updates. Dunno if that's any help.

Is there anything else in the applicatin or system event logs from the same time period? Anything in the security event log? Usually the entry in the app event log lists the username.

Last time I heard MS admitted to SQL not running smoothly on Vista.  Have they fixed the Vista SQL bugs?

    That makes sense.

Got a link? I have 2005 developer SP2 running on Vista laptop. No issues that I've noticed. Of course, it's a dev machine, not a heavily used server.
I'd be interested in seeing what problems are known to exist before I run into them

    Re: MSSQL stopped mysteriously

I haven't had any trouble with the 'server side' of Vista.  Granted, I only use IIS 7 and SQL, but the few problems I've had with Vista have actually all been Windows Explorer related.
