    Help Needed

    Hi guys,

I need some help, guidance and pointing into the right direction i would like to pursue a career in DBA I’m currently working in a DBA environment but I’m more into the monitoring databases via operations manager to check critical alerts for as to why a Job on a database didn’t run, replications, checking spids ect.. but i would really like to get into the DBA department and study wise can your'l point me in the write direction i was considering going for an MCITP course but not sure where they offer it in Durban would rather prefer going for a class course then doing a self study one as a class course is more hands on and you can learn a lot more.So do you guys know where in Durban that offers such a course? or maybe give any advise that would help me.

Sorry Diago, it slipped my mind that you were now in a training role. Go with IT Intellect as your first option they offer community members' discounts on training! Big Smile

    Re: Help Needed

The ITP courses for database admin will give you a good theoretical grounding. Write the exams that go along with that and with the monitoring background you should be able to get a junior DBA position without too much trouble.

Are you looking at the admin/operational side of DBA (jobs, backups, availability, etc) or are you interested in the developer DBA side as well (tuning, stored procedures, queries, etc?). Most companies that I've encountered in SA don't split the two, they're not big enough or don't have a large enough DBA staff, but there are a few of the bigger organisations that consider those separate roles.
