Damn, sorry, I forgot. But CraigN is right, we will definately need some sort of web-based source control.

I'm looking into some of the suggestions

    Codeplex looks quite interesting

     About CodePlex
CodePlex is Microsoft's open source project hosting web site. Start a new project, join an existing one, or download software created by the community. More About CodePlex...

Microsoft does not control, review, revise, endorse or distribute the third party projects on this site. Microsoft is hosting the CodePlex site solely as a web storage site as a service to the developer community. For more information, read the CodePlex Terms Of Use.

I have no problem using or learning any1, as long as it is free. Smile

So whats the project planning on using for source control? CodePlex, SourceForge or Google Code?

What about Sourcegear Vault? Can't it be used over the web?

Well not necessarily. If you're keen to use it I can most likely get the project hosted on their public community server for free.

Just remember, we cannot run reports from SSRS on Express. I have a full version of 2005 on my work machine/laptop. When I get there, I'll start working on 2005 full edition.

Actually you can. Its called SQL Server 2005 Express with Advanced Services. :)

Really ! ... that's cool.  Is that a service which they provide ?

I would not mind because I would like to get some experience with it.

What would it require from our side ?

PS.  I've almost finished the basic start-up project...so I can make the files available as soon as we're ready to go.

    1. Maybe the information section....which probably needs a bit more discussion, but I guess it would essentially be a database with website links, articles, etc.

A user would have the ability to add information to certain user roles/groups.  Eg.  Someone finds an interesting article and adds it to the developer group.  This article then appears on the 'home page' of every one belonging to that group.

I suppose I need to get this started before we can really move forward.   I'll do my best to get something up during the week.

Ooooh shiny Big Smile...  So much responsibility for such a baby... YAY!

    RottenAppleMan:

    ME

    1.  handle the CSS and the style guide (if it's ok with you guys),
    2. set up some sort of login system that takes the user to their home page/control panel
I hear Kittens concerns about building that last to make development easier....but a well built cookie solution should take care of that.

Absolutely no issues...  I'm grateful you didn't ask me to do it.  Everyone seems to assume that, because I'm a girl, I have some sort of design sense.  Which is totally untrue, because I have given 3 graphic designers near heart failure after showing them something I made without their input.  Apparently I'm a design retard.

    cue the trumpets.

I've finished the basic setup. and it's ready for everyone to start playing with.

I guess we need to make a decision on the source control.
you can pm me your email address and I can mail it to you to have a look at in the mean time. (+- 3MB)

What do you guys think?  Do you want to start playing with it before we make a decision and set up the source control service .... or what?

I'm not really in a position to recommend source control.

CraigN said we could use sourcegear for free but I cannot work out how.  Horatio has had experience with sourcegear.

Should we bite the bullet and go with the Microsoft one (Codeplex) ?

How open are the open source systems, like codeplex ?  Can everyone see what we're doing or only if we allow them to?

    Great. Will do.

P.S. I haven't yet started playing with sourcegear. I downloaded it, but haven't even installed it yet. Read up a bit on how it works.

Hopefully have it done by Monday.

    Re: Group Project

    Hi all

Kinda saw this thread a bit late , would like to chime in a bit regards to the source control issues/suggestions. This is what i have learnt from my time developing with people over the net. Please feel free to correct where i am wrong

    1.Codeplex

They have a great integrated project management system i.e. Provide a very nice front for your project making it available to others if more people want to join

They have multiple ways of doing source control .(1. Using a Team Foundation Server , 2.Using there own application, 3. Using another application provided free by on of their partners )

    2.Google Code

There interface should be familiar to anyone that has used any other google product before.

They only use subversion as far as i know.

I personally prefer the google way as setting up and working with subversion is really very simple and a great platform to work on. Although the chances of more programmers join the team are higher if it is hosted on Codeplex since it gets alot more .Net coverage.

I would be interested in trying out the sourcegear way as well ,since i have never worked with the product before , i dont mind learning any other way that is recomended as well.

Hi Groupies Zip it! (Can I say that?)

It's sad. I have been watching you, but I can't pitch in (considering the whole oWAMP saga). I must say though that I like what I see, and I hope you guys and gals don't mind any comments here, and there ( and everywhere ). I failed group work 101, so I hope that stalking you's will be benficial

    Confused

I'm going to regret forging this...

    Re: Group Project

    Hi Stalkerh and Orikuuido.

     Thanks for your advice  Stalkerh

After checking out all the source code options ... Codeplex seem like a good choice...especially seen as it has a .net focus.

I'll try find some time to set up a project at codeplex......so busy putting out fires at the moment.....and I can't bill for any of it Sad
