    Hi Diago,

any chance of a short description on SharePoint server before I RSVP? I don't want to go there, just to realize that I am in the wrong place. I'm confident that you will deliver quite an informative talk on the evening, having witnessed once before, but I don't want to be the only one there looking  --> Tongue Tied,

    regards...

I'm going to regret forging this...

Hey,  I think you should come to the talk as the idea is to learn more about Sharepoint. If you mean what is Sharepoint I am sure Google can give you a short description of what it is.

    See you there

Hmmm, did some Googling and the first word that struck me was MICROSOFT.

I'll skip this talk, not because I don't enjoy Willie's talks, but I don't like Microsoft technologies too much.

    Sorry about that...

    • You could have saved yourself the hassle to google it if you read the topic that clearly says Microsoft SharePoint
    • Considering that 80% of the Durban market alone are in the process of installing or planning to rollout SharePoint, whether you like Microsoft technologies or not is irrelevant. At this point there is a lot of corporate investment in the product and the talk is to explain why
    • The key to being successful in IT is to be open minded and aware of every possible product that is in the market, MOSS competes indirectly with products like Drupal, Mambo, Joomla and a few other Linux systems. Furthermore liking or disliking a product or solution doesn't mean someone shouldn't know about the product or what it does.

Lastly, as Microsoft is a major sponsor of this community, therefore a lot of the talks we do are around their products. We do interoperability talks as well with some being planned for the near future, however I have so far only had one request for a linux talk. Majority of community members either work in a Microsoft based company or is studying at the moment, using Microsoft technologies

I'd love to attend, but it is a little far to travel.  Are you doing anything sharepointish at TechEd?

I used to be one of those hacker kiddies who thought PHP was way better than the M$ stuff. Heck, I still do. It doesn't mean I ever stoped looking at the M$ tools.

When ever I developed something (and I still do this), I spend hours trawling the net finding other simmilar sites or technologies that I can pull ideas from. It made my sites *much* better. So, even if you arn't into Microsoft, I would suggest comming along just to see what M$ is up to and if you can "steal" any good ideas from them for your php site.

Seriously, no site is 100% original, neither is any technology. Even PHP has a c based syntax, etc... The trick is figuring out which of the "good ideas" out there make sense for your site...

    Cheers

Hi monsta, I do not appreciate being called a 'hacker kid'. In the future, please refrain from assuming things, even if you were to claim it to be an educated guess afterwards.

I apologize if anybody was offended by my brash rantings about Microsoft

A "hacker" in the coding sense is someone who codes on something without an overall plan of what they are doing, e.g. "I am going to hack away at the code till I get it to work".

Every developer started out as a hacker, until through experience he/she learned how to architect software.

Oh and lastly, I called myself an ex-hacker kiddie.I said that even back when I was a hacker kid, I always looked around for sources of inspiration for my sites.

    Cheers
