    Unrelated job posts

    Hi all

Am I the only one who's getting a little sick of all the non-dev-related job posts?  Who in their right mind thinks they're going to find sales people or hell-desk agents on this site?  Is it because membership on this site is free?  Or because of the prevailing thought that "Anything technical is the same", lumping programmers together with engineers, sysadmins and TV repairmen?

    A*

    Re: Unrelated job posts

I think the volume of recruitment spam is killing this site.  It drowns out other threads and makes opening 'topics not read' a drag.  I think job ads should stay on job sites and should be banned/moderated from here.

    StackOverflow anyone?

I agree fully with that... perhaps if possible make the job threads not update the Active and Unanswered lists... as for not posting the job's here, I disagree with that, this is a development community, and I think that job ads being posted for us should be allowed... Wink

Hmm...  They can be useful, so maybe banning is not such a great idea.  Moderated is best.  Above all, I think anyone who posts a job spec that is NOT dev-related (esp those who post such ridiculous items as the one entitled "Senior Sales Executive") should be banned from the site.  To be perfectly frank, anyone who doesn't understand the difference between IT in general and sales should not be recruiting at all!  No wonder people land up walking out on interviews or in jobs that are totally wrong for them...

    Re: Unrelated job posts

Does everyone feel that it's the unanswered posts that gets cluttered or is it that the jobs forum contains all of the irrelevant jobs and you would all like to see strictly development positions in this forum?

I feel that development job adverts are a positive feature to this website and I know a lot of the members do have a look at the decent job posts so I dont think we will get rid of them all together.

    Re: Unrelated job posts

I agree with Fridgi in the sense that the Jobs section is too cluttered with too many irrelevant jobs and only the dev related jobs should stay.

I myself look at the dev job posts often so I know to what I must upgrade in the near future if I want to upgrade my career path.

I vote for to remove all the irrelevant stuff and only keep the dev stuff. The irrelevant stuff is what is cluttering up the "Unanswered posts" anyway.

And also, only use capital letters for the names of your threads when it is something urgent, like a failed SQL cluster and you need urgent help. Otherwise it looks like everything on the site is written with CAPS Lock on!!! Smile

    Cheers,

Great point about the CAPS lock... I hate uppercase text when it is not required!

    Re: Unrelated job posts

    Hi

Please accept our apologies, as the ads that were not development related were placed in error. We are well aware that this is a development specific site and will in future make sure we double check, so this issue might not arise again.

    Re: Unrelated job posts

Spoken to Mr CraigN and the job post issues have been raised at the Leads meetings and they are looking into ways of handling the job posts in an efficient and innovative manner.

It seems we are unable to modify the source for Community Server but it is built on an SDK that you can write plugins for... So we are a looking for a HERO developer with experience in writing Community Server plugins to assist us with this problem.

Anyone up for the challenege? You will be rewarded with lots of gold stars and recognition as the HERO developer who saved us from the EVIL SPAMMER job posts!

Might?  At least you have one dev-related post though... Marisa has zero.

LOL! That would be a fulltime job Prof, there is so much to moderate!

Could not agree more! I hardly ever read posts on this site anymore. I mean honestly, if i wanted a job i'd go look on pnet or career junction.

    Re: Unrelated job posts

    hi there

I appreciate your concern with the type of positions we place on SA Developer.  Should you require us to remove our adds I will completely understand, one of the main reasons placing adds on the website is that it has helped us tremendously in terms of networking through the people on the site. We have had quite a couple of referrals from SA Developers and we have managed to assist those candidate in finding alternative employment.

    Re: Unrelated job posts

Perhaps you are (not?) the only one. If you don't like sushi, my best advice is not to eat it. If you don't want to read "non-dev-related job posts", don't. Only subscribe to forums that you are interested in. Last year, I actively read the job posts because I was looking for a job. Now that I've found my dream job, I don't read them anymore. I'm sure I'm not unique.

The spirit of this site is help and cooperation, not to vehemently criticise aspects that don't appeal to you.
