Hi all

Would there be any interest in SQL Server-related community events run in Johannesburg? There aren't any serious plans made yet on format or anything else, so I'm very open to comments.

Please pass this on to anyone you know who works with SQL Server but isn't a member here, especially DBAs

Personally I'd like to see SQL Server best practices from a developer's perspective. You covered quite a bit at Tech-Ed in terms of index and query optimisation and I think developers could do with guidance like that.

I would like to know more about the actual mechanics of data access, e.g. the actual operations performed during query execution.  E.g. why does an update acquire a lock that blocks a read etc.

 I know why in this case, but there's a whole lot I think a whole lot of us don't know.

  I barely scratched the surfce at TechEd. I could probably have gone on for another hour or two on indexes alone.
