    Re: August 2008 Meeting – Fight-Night : Development vs.Infrastructure

    Bugger - I missed this:(

I gather it was similar to Nicolas and Zlatan's fight night session at Tech-Ed?

Question: how do I join the mailing list so I don't miss these in future?

And so the kief looked and lo, it was kief.

    Re: August 2008 Meeting – Fight-Night : Development vs.Infrastructure

Yes, it was similar to the one at Tech-Ed.  The conversation was quite lively.  I believe at Tech-Ed the developers were outnumbered quite a lot by Infrastructure people.  This time Nicholas was on his own.

The mailing list for Cape Town events can be found here:  http://groups.google.com/group/sadevctevents.  Please add yourself to the list.  We'll be sending out the invite for the next event (17 September) later today.  Hope to see you there!

Yeah - I was one of the few developer's there...it got messy. Lots of infrastructure guys accusing developers of having an "ivory tower" complex and thinking they know better than the infrastructure guys:-P

And so the kief looked and lo, it was kief.

    Re: August 2008 Meeting – Fight-Night : Development vs.Infrastructure

I can only imagine how heated the conversations became.  It was interesting to hear what people think and how they experience things.  One of the attendees was in Infrastructure and then went into Dev.

It's good that we have these kinds of talks sometimes because it gives you some insight into the other person's world.  The key take away for me was that mutual respect goes a long way.

    Re: August 2008 Meeting – Fight-Night : Development vs.Infrastructure

Yep - I've started consulting with infrastructure on architecture decisions. I've also started sitting in on infrastructure's Thursday morning update sessions, got some WEIRD looks at the beginning, but now they enjoy having me there as I'm able to provide architecture/dev perspectives on things like "oh, yeah, SP3. Let's roll it out. It won't break anything."

And so the kief looked and lo, it was kief.
