Local webcast/screencast sessions

One of the problems we've always had with in-person events is traffic and other activities on that evening. I've been thinking of setting up an online session using LiveMeeting, GotoMeeting or such-like. The idea would be to start it off say once a month on a Friday during lunchtime and then hopefully make it a regular weekly event.

The format would be at most a 30 minute screencast/webcast followed by an optional Q&A session with the speaker/panel. If the session is small enough we can do voice otherwise we'll need to keep it to text chat.

What do you guys think? Any suggestions or ideas?

Hi guys, from the 28th August to the 11th of September I will be in Canada participating in the World Skills Canada 2009

Word Skills usually have a compeition every 2 years, each year a different country is selected, the are over 40 categories to the competition the one I am partcipating in : Web Development.

So yeah, I am representing SA in Web Development Internationaly - the age restriction to competetors is 22.

This is like two weeks away

so yeah any travel advice or anything would help a lot never really flown long distance before :)

the first week is in Canada is going to be tours, sight seeing etc so that we get used to conditions then the second week is the competition, we will have tasks prepared for us to do over a period of 4 days, in that 4 days we will be required to build a basic and secure CMS with SEF URLS and a W3C Valid DIV Fluid layout

you may have noticed my posts on JQuery earlier but I have put that on hold as we are not allowed to use any js libraries for this system - pure hard code,

Day 1 : plan, design, slice to static HTML
Day 2 : build a role-enabled back-end and Administrator section of the site
Day 3 : Create a front-end system ( module positions etc )
Day 4 : SEF URLS and other fine SEO tweaks

3 day BDD - Behaviour driven design

HI!

I'll possibly be in S.A in August 2009, and am running a few 3 day BDD courses. This will include unit testing, tdd and progressing into bdd and we'll also cover software design principles and patterns.

All examples and coding will be in c# 3.5 but the concepts learned are well used across different OO languages.

Lindi Opperman from Microsoft's Eastern Cape office based in Port Elizabeth will discuss Microsoft's plans and current involvement with the Eastern Cape development community.

Talk 1: Aspect Oriented Programming with PostSharp and .NET

AOP (Aspect Oriented Programming) opens the door to several very interesting architecture opportunities and using AOP frameworks like PostSharp, this functionality is easily accessible.

During the 30 minutes, listenerts will be introduced to AOP and be shown several ideas that leverage off the power of AOP.

Talk 2: Begnning Firefox addon development

This talk will introduce the general technologies involved including Jscript, XUL and then proceed to cover from end to end how to build a sample add on.

Port Elizabeth needs a .NET community. So I've decided to put something together. I'd love it if someone wants to assist me with this, but if not, it's no biggy :) I believe that PE's developers can really benefint from a community effort with events etc.

If anyone has any ideas please let me know. I will keep ya'll posted :D

Hey guys,

Would anyone be interested in attending some small (hopefully 10+) dev sessions in PE? I'm thinking similiar to Devs4Devs like they had in Jhb recently. Just an evening with some pizza and coke and then covering any topics most people in the area want to cover. I'm always very keen on new technology, so we can maybe highlight some of the new stuff MS is doing and then have a couple peeps give a *quick* (20-30 mins) on some very cool and useful stuff they working with.

i need to at least have knowledge of someone when i get there else its gonna be really crappy.

Im trying to find out if i can bring a video camera and a laptop to the event as well.

Last year a few members in Gauteng decided to meet up at a local mall to have their hair shaved or coloured in support of the Cancer Association of South Africa.
