Please note that the event has been moved to Thursday 24 April 2008 as the Eskom load shedding schedule is killing power to the venue on Wednesday evenings. We rather want to play it safe then risk not being able to get out of Musgrave.

Ok, can I bring my mom to babysit me? Angel

Muaha!  Check out http://orikuuido.atspace.com/index.htm and email me at orikuuido@live.co.za with any ideas please people.  I need some scripting help, and if Ajax can sort it, perfect.

No and No. As for AJAX helping you with scripting, it is possibly not going to. It is an extension to ASP.Net that allows for some nifty interfaces, however a good understanding of scripting is required to use it well.

Re: KZN Development Talk - 24 April 2008 @ IT Intellect

Orikuuido sounds like a sales person...

" So this, "ajax" you are working on, it sounds great! The customer has been asking for a custom scripting language in the tool and this will full their need!"

" NO! You are completely wrong!"

Two weeks later in the customer presentation:

" So, the guys have been working on this custom scripting language they call "Ajax". I am sure you will be interested to hear how it can solve all your scripting concerns. So, without further a due I will hand over to the developer! "

    Cheers

Re: KZN Development Talk - 24 April 2008 @ IT Intellect

I'm used to HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and I am getting into PHP and MySQL.  So, ASP, ASP.NET and DHTML are still very new to me.

Bless my ignorance, it'll give me more room to sell things Stick out tongue

I trust this talk at IT Intellect will help me on my way to understanding ASP.NET, and if it doesn't, then don't blame yourselves, I am useless.

I wasn't talking about ignorance, I was talking about guys who hear what they want to hear :)

    On another note...

Just bear in mind that talks are hard to give. You have some guys who generate C# code from template engines and you get guys who don't know what ASP.NET is. So, its usually hard to please everyone.

Ultimately talks introduce you to a new technology or a new way of using an existing one. The idea is that the presenter can show you a good solution to a problem. Now, you may listen and go "OMG! I have this issue all the time and you just solved it!" or you go "Why would I even want a web interface to my code?!?!". The guy who went "OMG!" probably has issues with his web site, the other dude probably works on an application that has been a windows application for 10 years.

But yes, there will probably be some good coders there who you can talk to about your problems, if you are nice to them :)

    Cheers

You sound like an engineer... always to the point.  Now if I told you that before I answered, I need to know the context in which you were asking the question and what you were expecting as a satisfactory answer because I am concerned that by simply answering yes or no I may not be fully conveying my point.  Then I would also sound like an engineer.

And yes, there are certain engineers who wouldn't see the humor in my previous statement.

But yes, I will come across.

    Cheers

Re: KZN Development Talk - 24 April 2008 @ IT Intellect

Damn, it was meant as a joke, but I see it has evolved into a full scale war Confused

Anyway, the talk was good.  Diago, you enlightened me quite a bit in the field of AJAX, and I must say that I was able to fully understand everything you said.  Dion on the other hand was good, but over my head.  My brain slowly started dying, but with time I will slowly start seeing the bigger picture.

     Thanks for the yo-yo!
