Guys, what's with the asocial Jo'burg chapter?  We're nearly half way through the year with no SADev events.  I'm more than willing to give a talk, but will need people and a venue, the latter previously being organised by the leads.  If necessary, I could try get something at my office, for a smallish number of people, but we haven't seen massive crowds anyway.

FYI - On the venue tip - I know a place opposite Banbury Crossing in Randburg that has a network, screens, keyboards, mice and all you have to do is bring your box and you can jump on the network. It has internet access as well, sort of like an internet cafe but it's meant for gamers who just want a place where they can have a decent LAN game, I believe there's 30 network points (not 100% sure)... It's called the Underground, PM me if you want more details...

Yes its been a little quiet of late, my sincere apologies as I was away on leave and away at Summit. But no excuses, we should still have had events. I can tell you thought hat we have a talk scheduled for the 23rd of June with Brad Abrams who is coming out for MIX Essentials on the 24th of June.

In terms of a social event, I was thinking of getting together for a round of action golf/putt putt. Anyone keen?

Am I correct in my assumption that there will no longer be a DevDays event this year as I see the next "big" event is MIX Essentials. Are they now aiming at incorporating DevDays and MIX Essentials into a single event?

DevDays has been postponed this year due to Tech-Ed being moved earlier this year (3rd - 7th August). I don't believe that DevDays has been incorporated into MIX Essentials as it caters for slightly different audiences.

How about a get together at a putt putt course where we see who can:

a) Find the most inefficient Rube Goldberg algorithm/technique to get the ball into the hole
and
b) Who can code it most efficiently using something like smalltalk/lisp.

No, I have a bet with two of my directors, for a case of Heinekin each, and R100 from a colleague, that I won't drink anything alcoholic for two months, i.e. ending the 2nd week in July.  A pub social would be rather cruel, don't you think?

Bring it on! I'll just have to resort to other recreationals.   I'll probably also eat a lot. 

So, lets pick a stimulating place for the begining of June.  The Sheikhs Palace in Rivonia looks interesting, and Moyo at Melrose Arch is nice and viby.  Both pretty central as well.   If good ol' traditional food is preferred over exotic and interesting tastes and aromas, Gourmet Garage at Monte make the best burgers in the country, and if Frank is there he will make a good host for a large booking.
