To complete MCSD or not?

    To complete MCSD or not?

    Here is my scenario:

I am currently busy with my MCSD on a part-time basis, (ASP.NET is my current module with which I am almost finished).

Then I must still do the remaining 2 modules: XML and Solutions Architectures.

But now I've noticed that the MCSD exams will expire on 31March2009, and that the "replacement" qualification for MCSD is MCPD.

    Now my questions:

    1)      Can the members of this site that have already completed their MCSD indicate whether I will be able to complete the 2 remaining modules, and write the Internationals before 31March2009? With other words, is the amount of work in these 2 modules not too much to try and complete (still on a part-time basis) before the aforementioned date?

    2)      Or is it a good idea to convert to MCPD without completing my MCSD?

    3)      Will I get "credits" or recognition for the modules that I have completed already (SQL, OOP, C#, Windows Apps)?

    4)      Where in PTA can I do MCPD, and what are the costs involved?

Re: To complete MCSD or not?

    Hi,

I completed my MCSD in June, and I can assure you you will be able to complete your remaining modules before the exams expire.  To answer your questions:

    1.  You can complete both these exams in a month if you have industry experience and the right training guides.  I used the MS Press Self paced training kit.

    2.  Converting to MCPD after completing your MCSD is a two exam upgrade path to MCPD Enterprise Application Developer.

    http://www.microsoft.com/learning/exams/70-554.mspx

Then, the upgrade to MCPD 2008 is another 2 exams. http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/mcpd/vstudio/2008/default.mspx#ELE

If you don't complete your MCSD but do have an MCAD, you can still upgrade to MCPD Web Dev or MCPD Windows Dev, not both in one like the Enterprise developer is.

    3.  Yes, these remain on your Transcript.

    4.  I did some exams at Torque IT in Lynwood road when I still worked in Hatfield.  Also, have a look at Hatfield Business College, they have a testing facility as well.

    Cheers
