Custom data store in Exchange Server

    Hi All,

Ive started my first project that requires me to integrate with Outlook. Coding the add-in was relatively simple once i got the hang of the ribbon control, but now im stuck on something: is it possible to store custom user data in Exchange?

Basically i need to store a few fields for use with my Outlook add-in, but i cant find any info on whether or not Exchange can be used to store custom data. My other option is using AD, but i woudl prefer Exchange if its possible and relatively feasable.

Hopefully someone here can point me in the right directions.

    cheers!

    Hey there,

Will the Outlook Addin always be run in an environment which has both Exchange and/or AD? Regardless, is there a real requirement to store it in that type of structure as opposed to even the .config/another XML file? Especially if it's only a few fields?

    Thanks,

    Hi Pat,

Yes the Addin will always be run in an environment where we have both Exchange and AD available. The reason we want to store the data in a central location is because we need to be able to manage/maintain these fields from a central location. These data fields need to be variable for each user on the domain.

I have since experienced that a call to AD can be rather slow (4~6 seconds) depending on the network architecture (e.g. our AD server sits in the USA), which really highlights my desire to store these fields in Exchange if possible.Essentially i need to look up these fields every time an internal recipient is added.

Thanks for your time thus far.

    John
