    Licence Key Quandary

    What would you do if

    1. you paid for a licence key for a Microsoft portal server product
    2. the vendor sends you the key
    3. you notice that the same key is printed in an official Microsoft course book
    4. you raise an issue with the vendor, suspecting some kind of fraud
    5. they say it's your companies VLK and all is ok

(the vendor is an international business, it's company sanctioned, and we use them for most software licensing)

    Re: Licence Key Dilemma

I would suggest take it up with Microsoft.

One of the 2 sides (the vendor, or Microsoft) made some mistake somewhere down the line.

Better to keep your behind covered.

    Re: Licence Key Dilemma

Quite often keys are not as unique as one assumes, sometimes they're just there to obfuscate. What's more relevant is that you have paid for a license. A whole company using the same key would not be an issue (I'd imagine), so long as each had bought a separate license.

So I'd check that the license is legit, and that I can verify it. Then I'd call the BSA, and see if I could get a piece of that R100,000 reward they're advertising Smile.

The high road might seem longer at first, but you'll enjoy the downhill at the end...

    just phoned MS.

apparently, the entire world uses the same VLK for sharepoint 2007 Enterprise as it's a "static key"

    That's interesting to know.

I'd say that's more of a quandary than a dilemma.  Cool
